ANDERSON, Ind. —
The Indianapolis Colts waived eight players on Sunday, including two who were waived/injured.

Quarterback Mike Hartline was among those released. During the preseason, Hartline only attempted two passes with no completions.

The Colts signed Hartline as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Kentucky this season.

Hartline’s chances of making the team weren’t helped when the Colts signed  Kerry Collins on Wednesday.

A pair of offensive linemen were also cut by the Colts.

Guard Josh Beekman was let go after being brought in during the team’s training camp at Anderson University earlier this month.

Offensive tackle Casey Bender was also released.

Wide receiver Joe Horn and running back Devin Moore were also given their release.

On the defensive side, Indianapolis waived defensive backs Chip Vaughn and Mike Newton and linebacker Cody Glenn.

Newton and Glenn were on the waived/injured list.

The 32 teams in the NFL have until Wednesday to trim their respective rosters from 90 to 75 players.

What do you guys think about this.

Colts release 8 players in first cutdown

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts have released eight players including last year’s kickoff returner, Devin Moore.

The Indy native made the team as an undrafted rookie but missed the final 12 games with nerve damage.

Defensive back Chip Vaughn also has been waived. Vaughn was called for unnecessary roughness and taunting on back-to-back plays Friday night, penalties that helped Green Bay keep its game-tying drive alive in a 24-21 victory.

The Colts also released offensive linemen Josh Beekman and Casey Bender, receiver Joe Horn and quarterback Mike Hartline.

Linebacker Cody Glenn and defensive back Mike Newton were placed on the waived-injured list.

All teams must trim their rosters to 80 by Tuesday afternoon.

Colts’ Rhodes misses practice, but plans to play vs. Jets

Indianapolis Colts running back Dominic Rhodes sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday with a hip injury, but plans to be on the field when the Colts host the New York Jets in the opening round of the playoffs Saturday, according to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star.

“I’m fine,” said Rhodes. “(Sitting out of practice) is just precautionary. I wouldn’t miss (the game).”

Rhodes compiled 172 yards in the Colts’ final three regular season games, helping the team average 149 yards per game.

Rhodes was a key player for the Colts when they won the Super Bowl after the 2006 season. The Colts picked him up again after their backs were hurt late in the season, and he provided a boost with his play and in the locker room.

Safeties Mike Newton (hamstring) and Al Afalava (ankle); linebacker Clint Session (elbow); Ryan Diem (back) and Jamey Richard (concussion); and cornerback Kelvin Hayden (neck) missed Thursday’s practice.

Wide receiver Reggie Wayne (knee) and defensive tackle Antonio Johnson (chest) was limited in practice.

Offensive linemen Jaimie Thomas (ankle) practiced Thursday, along with defensive linemen Daniel Muir (chest), Dwight Freeney (rested) and defensive end Robert Mathis (rested).
